AB Crew Returns from April Break with Strong Performances on the Mystic

Arlington-Belmont Crew returned from April Break with momentum this past weekend, taking to the Mystic River for a series of productive and spirited scrimmages. With favorable weather and growing cohesion across boats, both the boys’ and girls’ teams demonstrated clear progress as the regatta season approaches.

On the boys’ side, the Varsity crews embraced challenging matchups, including a competitive race where the 2V4+ took on an 8+ boat with determination and composure. The 1V4+ executed a strong starting sequence and showed measurable gains in speed and endurance as the race unfolded. The Novice Boys 8+, rowing in a newly configured lineup, delivered an impressive performance—winning their heat by multiple boat lengths.

The girls’ teams also showed significant strides. The Novice Girls 4+ completed their first time trial and posted a time that outpaced comparable novice crews, while continuing to develop under the leadership of a new coxswain. Across the varsity squads, athletes competed in newly assembled lineups and rose to the challenge, demonstrating adaptability, teamwork, and competitive spirit. Several boats secured decisive victories, including a dominant performance by the Varsity 8+, which pulled ahead by a wide margin.

In addition to strong finishes, the weekend highlighted continued technical development and improved race execution across the program. Athletes will build on this progress with benchmark testing this week, providing another opportunity to measure gains since the start of the season.

As AB Crew heads into a busy stretch of racing, the team is encouraged by the steady improvement, depth across lineups, and the collective commitment of its athletes.
