This Sunday, May 10, AB Crew returns to the Merrimack River in Lowell, Massachusetts for the 2026 Amber Zapatka Memorial Regatta, hosted by Lowell Regattas, Inc. at the UMass Lowell Bellegarde Boathouse.
The team is excited to return to Lowell after last year’s regatta was cancelled due to weather and challenging river conditions on the Merrimack. With crews continuing to build momentum throughout the spring season, the event marks another important opportunity for athletes across novice and varsity squads to race, learn, and compete together.
The Amber Zapatka Memorial Regatta honors Amber Zapatka, a former rower at Lowell High School and UMass Lowell who tragically passed away in 2015 following a motorcycle accident. The regatta, formerly known as the Lowell Invitational Regatta, was later renamed in her memory. Her legacy continues through the event’s emphasis on teamwork, camaraderie, and appreciation for the rowing community.
“Cherish your teammates, cherish the race.”
The regatta takes place along the Merrimack River in Lowell, with racing beginning early Sunday morning and continuing throughout the afternoon.
